How-To: Tiva + ChibiStudio

This guide describes how to setup ChibiStudio with support for the Texas Instruments Tiva devices (TM4C123x and TM4C129x). Note this is the first draft of the guide so it may contain inaccuracies or errors. When you find an error please report it in the Tiva Support section of the forum.

  1. Download the latest ChibiStudio from Sourceforge and install it by following the installation guide.
  2. Start ChibiStudio and close the Welcome window.
  3. Click File > Switch Workspace and select “C:\ChibiStudio\workspace30”.
  4. Click File > Import…
  5. Select “Existing Projects into Workspace” and click “next”.
  6. Click “Browse…” to select the root directory.
  7. Select the folder “C:\ChibiStudio\chibios3\community\demos\TIVA” and click “ok”.
  8. Select the Tiva demo projects you want to import.
  9. Make sure that “Copy projects into workspace” is disabled and click “Finish”
  10. In the Project Explorer click on the “View Menu” arrow and click “Select Working Set…”.
  11. Click “New…”, select “C/C++” and click “next”.
  12. Choose a working set name, for example: “ChibiOS 3 Tiva Demos”.
  13. Select the projects you just included and click “finish”.
  14. Select the working set you just created and click “Ok”.

For the TM4C123G Launchpad:

  1. Right click on the RT-TM4C123G-LAUNCHPAD demo and click Build.
  2. Make sure the TM4C123G Launchpad is connected to the PC with a USB cable.
  3. Click Run > External Tools > OpenOCD on ICDI (prompts for .cfg target configuration).
  4. Go to C:\ChibiStudio\tools\openocd\scripts\board and select ek-tm4c123gxl.cfg.
  5. Click Open.
  6. Click Run > Debug Configurations…
  7. Select RT-TM4C123G-LAUNCHPAD (OpenOCD, Flash and Run) and click Debug.

For the TM4C1294 Connected Launchpad:

  1. Right click on the RT-TM4C1294-LAUNCHPAD demo and click Build.
  2. Make sure the TM4C1294 Connected Launchpad is connected to the PC with a USB cable.
  3. CLick Run > External Tools > OpenOCD on ICDI (prompts for .cfg target configuration).
  4. Go to C:\ChibiStudio\tools\openocd\scripts\board and select ek-tm4c1294xl.cfg.
  5. Click Open.
  6. Click Run > Debug Configurations…
  7. Select RT-TM4C123G-LAUNCHPAD (OpenOCD, Flash and Run) and click Debug.
